Ruth Meusel Obituary
Ruth Lydia (Freimuth) Meusel, 93, of Bristol, widow of her beloved Walter Meusel,
made her journey to heaven on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Shady Oaks in Bristol.
Ruth was born on November 24, 1929. After graduating from Central Connecticut State University, she taught second grade at Clara T. OConnell School in Bristol until her retirement. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and cherished her church family and lifelong friends.
She believed in giving back to her community and volunteered at her church and the Bristol Chamber of Commerce in her retirement years. Ruth valued her family and was a teacher of life to all of them. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. When she wasn't teaching second grade, she would be found playing school with her grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family in Cape Cod and winters in Florida. The beach was her happy place.
Ruth is survived her brother Emil Freimuth; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Scott Eschner of Bristol, Nancy and Mike Martone of Jupiter, FL and Patrick Smith of Burlington; her grandson/spouse Aaron and Stephanie Desjardins and granddaughters/spouses Alyssa and Justin Kirschner, Alison and Fred LaFlamme; her great grandchildren Nathan, Annabelle, Drew, Isla, Madison and Mason; and
numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Karen Smith, and five brothers Edward, Ellsworth, Gerhard, Walter and Richard.
The family would like to thank the staff at Shady Oaks and her Hospice Care Team for supporting Ruth and all of us through her journey.
Funeral Services will be held this Monday, April 24, 2023 at 11 AM in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 154 Meadow Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in Peacedale Cemetery, Bristol.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Monday between 10 and 11 AM. Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Avenue, Bristol has the honor of serving the Meusel family.

I just wish to kindly share my sentiments about Ruth in honor of her 2nd grade colleague, Emily Taillon. Emily is no longer with us but while we live Emily's spirit reigns in us. I recall Emily's kind stories of joy and admiration she had for Ruth. As a fellow Bristol teacher, 1970-2004, I knew of Ruth from a distance, but it was Emily who brought me closer to admiring Ruth. Too often, we lose s8ght of how interconnected we are with other people thru other people. I am pleased to write these thoughts about Ruth in the honor of one of my dearest friends in life, Emily Taillon. Respectfully, Tom Chauvin

I met Ruth during her stay at the Gables. She was so very sweet and kind. Always enjoying bingo with the rest of her friends. She was so very special and loved. My thoughts go out to her family. She will be dearly missed. A true gem.

I taught with Ruth at OConnell many years ago. She was a gentle and kind lady. She raised wonderful and talented children. I am still in awe of all of Lori´s talented art projects.
