BRISTOL
Thomas G. Duval, Sr., 78, of Bristol, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (October 28, 2025) at home. Tom was born on September 24, 1947, in Bristol and was one of six children of the late George and Jeanne (Laurendeau) Duval. Tom spent most of his life in Bristol and graduated from Bristol High School Class of 1965. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He spent almost 30 years in Burlington raising his family. Tom worked as a machinist for New Departure Hyatt, a division of General Motors, from 1965 until 1994 when they closed. Many times Tom worked double-shifts to provide for the family while also making time for his children's sporting events & other interests. Tom had a lot of hobbies including photography (he had a dark room in his basement), astronomy (he would often use his telescope to look at the stars late at night), and reading (he was an avid reader of both books and the newspaper). He also enjoyed watching movies & loved going to tag sales so he could add to his collection of clocks, salt & pepper shakers, stereos and other electronics that he loved to tinker with! A big giver; many tag sale items were bought for friends and family. Tom loved nature, time spent at the beach, he loved taking naps, ice cream and a good cup of coffee. Tom lived life on his own terms all the way to the end. He had a great sense of humor that we will miss (and roll our eyes at him!). Tom is survived by three children: Shelley Duval, her partner Mike Denhup & step-son Frank of Shelton, Karen Guarda and grandchildren Nico Thomas Guarda and Isabella Guarda and their father Vinny Guarda Jr. all of Bristol, and Thomas Duval, Jr. wife, Julianne and grandchildren Jack Duval and Georgina Duval of Santa Barbara, CA. Tom is also survived by two siblings: Cliff Duval and wife, Debbie
and Georgine Wilson and husband, Michael, all of Vermont; sister-in-law: Carol Duval of Bristol; his children's mother Beverly Hartshorn of Burlington, several nieces and nephews, good friends and neighbors. His grandchildren were the light of his life! He was predeceased by three siblings: Lillian Levesque, Doug Duval and Janice Gilbert. Funeral services will be held on Sunday (November 9, 2025) at 4:30 p.m. at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday between 2 and 4:30 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Bristol Public Library 5 High St. Bristol, CT 06010 in Tom's honor. Please visit Thoma's memorial website at
