James Wilpolt Obituary

James Henry "Jim" Wilpolt died on June 3rd, 2023, in Lafayette, Colorado. He was 78 years old. He was born February 14, 1945, in Socorro, New Mexico. His family later moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. In his junior year of high school (1961) they moved to Broomfield, where he excelled in football, baseball and won a State title in wrestling. In 1963, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Smith. He attended Western State College, in Gunnison. After college, he worked in construction until he found his passion working as campus security at Monarch High School, in Louisville. Over the years, he also enjoyed working as a softball slow pitch umpire, in Broomfield. You would quite often see him at Monarch High School and Broomfield High School football games and wrestling matches, or just out for a short, 15-mile bike ride around Broomfield. He is survived by his high school sweetheart Sharon, his 3 children, Craig Wilpolt (Dawn), Mike Wilpolt (Deseree), Jennifer Jo Wilpolt, his 5 grandchildren Peyton, Marloe, Jayce, Rylie, and Reese, and 3 great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his father Ralph Wilpolt, his mother Ruth Schroeder Wilpolt, and his 2 brothers Dave Wilpolt and Bob Wilpolt.
