BROWNSVILLE - Elizabeth Erin Wiley , 40, of
Brownsville, Texas, was taken to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, the 16th of December 2025.
Erin was born on September 26, 1985, in
Brownsville, Texas, to parents Chris and Joan Wiley. She remained a resident of Brownsville her entire life.
Baptized in infancy, Erin was a devout Catholic. Her deep faith was constant and sustained her through life's joys and sorrows. She found strength and solace through praying the Holy Rosary.
Erin attended St. Mary's School, Yturria Elementary, Oliveira Middle School, Homer Hanna High School, and The University of Texas at Brownsville where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education.
Erin was musically gifted and grew up in a household filled with music-making. As a child, she was active in the music ministry at St. Mary's Catholic Church alongside her parents and sisters. Even at a young age, she was cantoring and leading the singing at the Children's Mass each Sunday. Erin devoted much of her life to serving as a cantor and singer for Masses, weddings, funerals, memorial services, and quinceañeras, often accompanied by her father, Chris. She held a special affinity for the reverence and mystery of the Latin Mass, and she loved singing traditional Gregorian chant. Her spirit and beautiful voice was easily recognized and touched the hearts of countless people.
Erin shared her voice and heart freely with everyone. Few knew this more intimately than her students. Erin was a music teacher and choir director for the Brownsville Independent School District. She taught music at Garza Elementary and served as head choir director for Faulk and Stell Middle Schools. Her students consistently earned the highest honors in music performance and sightreading at UIL competitions. But above all else, she had an abiding love and affection for every single one of her students. Affectionately known as Ms. Sparkles, Erin's legacy of genuine love and pride for her students will live on in their lives forever.
Erin's life found its deepest meaning in her son, David, her only child and her greatest joy. Her love for him was steady and fierce, a devotion that shaped every part of her days. No one gave Erin more pride or joy than David. She raised him in a home that nurtured his interests: dinosaurs, reptiles, reading, and all things musical. Erin and David shared a love of good food, of laughter that came easily, and a bond rooted in affection and understanding. David was, and will always be, profoundly loved.
Erin now joins her beloved family who have gone before her to Heaven, including Papa Ed, Grandma Rosalie, Grandpa Howard, Aunt Kelly, Baby Scottie, and her dear friend, Sister Mary Ann.
Erin leaves a beautiful legacy of love in those she leaves behind. Remaining to cherish her memory are her beloved son, David; her mother, Joan; her father, Chris, and his wife Luci; her sisters, Katie, Jenny, and Sofia; her brothers-in-law, JP and Hunter; her nieces and nephews, Christopher, Rosalie, Rowan, and Holly; and her beloved Grandma Stephany. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles whom she loved dearly, as well as countless extended family, friends, and colleagues who were dear and beautiful to her in a multitude of beautiful ways.
The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be recited at ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 3rd of January 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. All attendees are invited to wear something pink in honor of Erin's favorite color.
The Funeral Mass will follow at eleven o'clock in the morning, celebrated and officiated by the Rev. Monsignor Heberto M. Diaz. All services will conclude at the church.
Honored to serve as her pallbearers are her son, David; her father, Chris; her uncles, Scott, Bob, Matt, Carson, and Jesse; and her brother-in-law, JP. Honorary pallbearers include her uncles, Tom, Brian, Terry, and Carl; and her brother-in-law, Hunter.
