Jose Gavito Obituary
José Angel Gavito, 94, beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle entered into the glory of his eternal life on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville.
José Angel was a member of one of Brownsville's pioneer families and a lifetime resident of Brownsville, having been born here on March 18, 1914, the fifth of 10 children of Manuel and Isabel O. Gavito.
Mr. Gavito was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Isabel O. Gavito; his sisters, Maria Isabel G. Magueregui, Antonia G. Castillo, Maria del Carmen G. Landin, and Felipa G. Cardenas; and by his brothers, Manuel, Ernesto, Roberto and Eduardo Gavito.
Left to mourn his loss is his wife of 63 years, Amparo Gomez Gavito; his three sons, Jose Angel (Eliza) Gavito Jr., Alfredo Antonio Gavito, and Ricardo F. (Yara) Gavito; his daughter, Margarita (Victor) Canales; his grandchildren, Victoria G. (David) Martin, Maricela Gavito, Marisa Gavito, Victor Canales, Alexandra Canales, Micaela Canales, and Julian Gavito; his great-granddaughter, Elle Martin, and his brother, Alfredo Gavito. He will also be deeply missed by his numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser.
The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
His sons, Jose Angel Jr., Alfredo Antonio, and Ricardo F. Gavito together with his nephews Manuel Gavito III, George Gavito, and Cipriano Cardenas are honored to be serving as pallbearers for Mr. Gavito. Honorary pallbearer will be his brother, Alfredo Gavito.
