I have fond memories of my cousin Ron. He and family used to live near us in Florida, and as kids, we'd visit the 'cool' place with a pool, a zoo... and a bomb shelter. Although we hadn't seen each other in person for decades after they moved out of the area and then to Texas, and lost touch over the years, Ron and I reconnected by phone about 7 years ago when my dad was nearing his 100th birthday. Ron's 'uncle Bob' was his mother's last remaining brother, and since Ron had no living relatives near him, I invited him out to the 100th birthday celebration here in Florida (more like a reunion). Ron's health issues prevented that as well as any subsequent visits. We 'caught up' a few times a year after that. I spoke to Ron about a month before, and my sister spoke with him a few weeks before he passed. We didn't know he was so close to leaving us. We had some good conversations, and I always tried to be positive, encouraging... and humorous when appropriate, knowing he was in the fight of his life. He will be missed. Wish I had more photos, films of the old days..... and one more conversation.
