Mildred Romer Obituary

Mildred Lewis Romer, 88, of Shallotte, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, in Autumn Care Nursing Center in Shallotte.
Mrs. Romer was born on July 17, 1924, in South Amboy, N.J., the daughter of the late William Harper and Mildred Johnson Lewis.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Sturgis in 1994; and a great-grandson, Erik Sturgis.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, past president of N.J. Plumbers Association Women's Auxiliary, an activist in starting a recycling project in New Jersey, an active member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, and the St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church in Shallotte, as well as Christ Episcopal Church in South Amboy, N.J.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, William Romer of Shallotte; daughter, Wendy Wagner of Carolina Shores; and four grandchildren, William Sturgis, Kevin Sturgis, Ken Namowicz and Cheryl Riesel.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel by the Rev. Dave Davis.
Mrs. Romer was a 36-year cancer survivor, and the family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society, Wilmington Chapter, 2202 Wrightsville Ave, Suite 111, Wilmington, NC 28403.
