POLLY DILLON Obituary

DILLON, POLLY JEAN - age 65, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly on the afternoon of March 22, 2014. Polly was born October 26, 1948, a Scorpio, in Kingsport, Tennessee, to two wonderful parents, Fred and Sally Dillon. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Daniel Dillon. A member of TVUUC, she was the loving and caring wife of Eddie Chin; and adored aunt to Stephanie Hill, Montana Dillon, Maureen Partridge, Judy McGrail, Howard Chin, Cindy Edel, Dennis Chin, Kenneth Chin, Brandon Chin and Brady Chin. She was a loving niece and well-loved cousin of the O'Neill-Baker-Dillon families of Tennessee and the Pacific Northwest. She also leaves behind her loving and faithful companions, Lucky Jake, Barkey and Spot. If you were a stray dog or cat that came home with her, you hit the jackpot. She was a free spirit who graduated from Rogersville HS in East Tennessee, where she was a Candy Striper, Rainbow Girl working with disabled children, band member, listed in Who's Who and voted most likely to succeed. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in speech pathology and worked in Anderson County as a speech therapist and later as a pre-school teacher at the Daniel Arthur Rehab Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She was a talented writer who won 1st place in the Holston Electric essay writing contest and 2nd place in the Voice of Democracy contest in her youth. From 1991 to 1992 she worked as the writer and production manager at the Clinch River Chronicle in Lake City, Tennessee. She went back to the University of Tennessee to take several technical writing courses which launched her on a new career path as a technical writer, working at Environmental Systems Corporation and later at Agilaire, Inc. before retirement. A service celebrating Polly's life will be shared with friends and family at 2:00 p.m., April 26, 2014, at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church located at 2931 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919, with Reverend Chris Buice officiating. In keeping with Chinese tradition, flowers can be sent to the church for the memorial or donations can be made in her memory to Family Promise of Knoxville. www.familypromiseknoxville.org

Here in the office, I have been missing Polly since her retirement. But I always knew we could pick up the phone at any time, and shortly I be hearing that iconic laughter. No more now. She is truly missed.
