Thomas Newman Obituary
Mr. Thomas Anthony "Andy" Newman, 64, passed away Monday July 1, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Newman was a lifelong resident of Bryan County and a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran having served in Vietnam and earning the Purple Heart. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Union Local 26 and worked at Savannah Machine and Shipyard, was a welder for Omega Steel and worked in maintenance at Derst Baking Company. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, an avid fisherman and an excellent cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Edison and Erva Lee Futch Newman; brothers, Paul and Steven Newman; sisters, Evon Futch and Ranee Kicklighter; and daughter, Joanie Lee Newman.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Wanda Bragg Newman of Pembroke; daughter, Carol Amanda Newman of Pembroke; brothers, Gary Newman and Bobby Newman, both of Blitchton; sisters, Billy Jean Demine of Pembroke and Mona Waters and Mary Alice Boydston, both of Nichols; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Spencer officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
