Doris Irene Taylor, 103, of West Unity passed away Thursday, March 29, 2025, at Hillside Country Living, Bryan, surrounded by her family. Doris was born Sept. 27, 1921, Fulton County, daughter of Harold and Ethel Marie (Ervin) Bly. She was a graduate of West Unity High School. Doris married Rex Allen Taylor on Dec. 1, 1941, in Lawton, Oklahoma, and he preceded her in death in March 1975. Doris worked as a press operator at Allied Moulded Products, Inc. for 23 years. Following her retirement, she continued to work as a greeter at Walmart for 14 years and stopped working at the age of 93. Doris enjoyed decorating for Christmas and won the West Unity Christmas Decorating Competition three times. Being a wife of a World War II veteran, Doris had a passion for supporting veterans and donating to their cause. She loved her family and her country. Doris provided care to aging family members, showing the immense love she had for others. In her free time, Doris enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.
Surviving are her daughters, Cheryl Purk of Van Wert and Carol (Harry) Dreyer of Riverwoods, Illinois; grandson, Tony Purk of Van Wert; great-granddaughter, Kennedy Purk of Van Wert. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rex Taylor; two brothers, Robert Bly and Ervin Bly; three sisters, Helen Mays, Mary Lou Oberlin and Marjorie Appling; son-in-law, Dave Purk.
To honor Doris' wishes she will be cremated, and private graveside services will be held at Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity. Services are in care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, West Unity.
Memorial contributions can be directed to the Willaims County Veteran Services or Bryan Senior Center Meals on Wheels.
