Evelyn L. Gorrell, 98, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025, at Hillside Country Living, Bryan, Ohio. Evelyn was born on March 30, 1927, in Hicksville, daughter of the late Omar and Flossie (Brantley) Smith. She was a 1945 graduate of Farmer High School. Evelyn married Floyd B. "Chuck" Gorrell on July 9, 1949, in Hicksville and he preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1981. She worked as the bookkeeper and real estate agent with their family business, Gorrell Bros. Auctioneer & Real Estate. Evelyn previously worked as an assistant to Dr. Hitt in his practice. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Hicksville Chapter - Order of Eastern Star, and an original, and the last remaining, member of the County Cousins. Evelyn enjoyed bird watching, traveling, reading, crafting and crocheting - making many beautiful dolls over the years.
Surviving is her sister, Dorothy Lovelace of Stryker, Ohio; two nieces, Denise (Denny) Klinepeter of Grand Rapids, Ohio, and Annette (Jeff) Anders of Stryker, Ohio; several great-nieces and -nephews; and by her extended family, Larry and Janice Poth of Hicksville. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chuck; nephew, Lowell Barbee; and two nieces, Carol Young and Barbara Stewart.
Visitation for Evelyn L. Gorrell will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, from 9–11 a.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 N. Main St., Hicksville, Ohio 43526. Funeral services will immediately follow in the funeral home beginning at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Kevin King officiating. Interment will follow in Farmer Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be directed to Community Health Professionals Hospice.
