Gerald J Coler, 76, of Akron, Ohio passed away on Jan. 8, 2025, at Pebble Creek Healthcare Center in Akron. He was born on June 5, 1948, in Montpelier, Ohio, to Charles Wilson and Ruth Adelia (Rummel) Coler. Gerald graduated from North Central High School in 1968 and after graduation he honorably served in the United States Army from August 1968-March 1970. On Sept. 4, 1971, he married Patsy Chapin at Cambria Baptist Church in Michigan and she survives.
Gerald worked for 47 years at Ohio Art in Bryan, Ohio, retiring in June of 2015. He was a member of Akron First Church of the Brethren.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Patsy Coler; son, Chad (Tanya) Coler of Union Town, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Sam and Abby Coler. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and four brothers.
A time to receive friends will take place on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer, Ohio. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Terry Baldwin to officiate. Military honors will be presented by the Pioneer Veterans before Gerald is laid to rest at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be directed towards Gideons International or Akron First Church of the Brethren. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.
