Janie (Ames) Straziuso, 79, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio.
Janie was born in Bryan, Ohio, on July 9, 1946, to Roger and Margorie (Copeland) Ames, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Bryan High School in 1964 and went on to attend Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, where she received her bachelor's degree in 1968. She married Daniel Straziuso on Dec. 21, 1987, and he survives. She was a member of Newlyn Quest, Orchard Hills Country Club, Bryan Hospital Auxiliary, Friends of Bryan Library and the Retired Teachers Association. She and her husband Dan are members of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Janie was a dedicated teacher for 30 years. In 2007, she retired from Bryan City Schools. She enjoyed spending her time riding her bike, reading books and gardening. She cherished spending time with family and friends. She loved her annual trips to South Padre Island, Texas. One of her greatest joys was being a Grammy. She attended countless school events and sporting functions.
She is survived in death by her husband, Dan Straziuso of Bryan; brother, Bishop Roger Ames (Gretsie) of Bryan, Ohio; three children, Kristin Mihm (Marty) of Denver, Colorado, Matt Boyers (Nikki) of Plano, Texas, and Courtney Ruffer (Mook) of Bryan, Ohio. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren whom she adored, Ryan and Andrew Mihm, Blake and Kate Boyers and Reese, Molly and Morgan Ruffer.
She will forever be remembered for being a wonderful wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a loyal, funny and supportive friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation for Janie will be held Friday, March 27, 2026, from 1-5 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 903 Center St., Bryan. A memorial service celebrating Janie's life will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, beginning at 10 a.m. in the church with Pastor Steve Rath officiating. Private burial will be held at Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan. Services are in care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Bryan.
