Mary Lou Boner, long time resident of Bryan, Ohio, and Ellenton, Florida, entered into eternal life on Sunday, July 27, at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 27 days.
Born Sept. 1, 1936, in Romeo, Michigan to Rene and Beatrice (Rolph) VanDeVoorde, she spent her early years in Detroit. When she turned 9 the family moved to Cooney Township where she eventually graduated from Edon High School. After a brief time of working in Chicago, she was brought back to the Tri-State area when on Sept. 8, 1956, she married Bill Boner of Fremont, Indiana. After marriage they briefly lived in Fremont and Sarasota, Florida, but eventually settled in Bryan. She worked for many years on the square in Bryan, first at Don's Diner, then as a deputy auditor for Williams County and finally as head bookkeeper at Citizens National Bank. At 55, she retired and she and Bill moved to Ellenton, Florida, where they enjoyed a care-free life of beach going and lots of fun, including many cruises and trips! They attended Palmetto Presbyterian Church for many years, where she was still working at the Thrift Store until February of 2025. Mary Lou was a fun-loving person who people loved to be around.
She is survived by her son, Brian (Judy) of Lakewood, Ohio; grandson, Jackson (Heather) of Lakewood, Ohio; her siblings, Jim (Carolyn) VanDeVoorde of Edon; Ray VanDeVoorde of Sebring, Florida; and Carol VanDeVoorde of Taylor, Michigan; her sister-in-law, Patty Decuypere of Vicksburg, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Wesley United Methodist Church of Bryan. www.ZMFH.com
