Herbert Light Obituary

Herbert B. Light

Herbert B. Light, 84, of Sulphur Springs, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 following a brief illness.

Herb was born at home in Sulphur Springs on October 31, 1928 to the late Loren and Mabel (Ulmer) Light. He was a 1946 graduate of Sulphur Springs where he excelled athletically playing baseball, basketball and ran track. Herb was the 1946 State Champion and record holder in the 100 yard dash. He proudly held this record until 1969.

On May 23, 1948 he married Ruth I. Geissman and she surives. Herb believed in doing things right the first time. Whether it was the 25 years spent working at Thew Shovel Division which was housed at Ohio Crane; ordering Ford tractor parts for Charlie Britton or running the printing presses at Herald Printing, you knew that everything would be completed in a satisfactory manner.

Herb served as the Liberty Twp. Clerk for 28 years and was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church on Ridgeton Road where he served as a trustee and also on the cemetery board. He loved following sports of any kind and always attended anything that his granddaughter was involved with. Herb enjoyed socializing with friends and he absolutely loved working in his yard.

In addition to Ruth, his wife of 64 years, Herb is survived by his daughter, Kaye Blum of Mansfield; granddaughter, Megan Blum of Columbus; one niece and three nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Rehm.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012 at St Paul Lutheran Church on Ridgeton Road with Pastor Hans Scherner and Pastor Jack Kocsis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

His family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery or to the church through Wise Funeral Service. Online expressions of sympathy may be left at www.wisefuneral.com.
