John Oberlander Obituary

BUCYRUS: John D. Oberlander, 54, of Bucyrus, died Monday, June 28, 2010 at OSU Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born February 14, 1956 in Bucyrus to Ellis M. and Ireta M. (Gerhart) Oberlander who reside in Bucyrus. John was a 1974 graduate of Wynford High School and on November 23, 1974 he married Sue A. Makeever who survives.
In addition to his parents and loving wife, John is survived by two sons, John W. Oberlander and wife Amanda of Columbus, and Justin C. Oberlander and his special friend, Erin also of Columbus; one grandson, Louis David Oberlander, who was born on John and Sue's anniversary; also surviving are four siblings, Roger and Vicki Oberlander of Bucyrus, Carol and Jim Clady of New Washington, Robert and Shelly Oberlander of Columbus, and Gary and Melissa Oberlander of Bucyrus; he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and lastly, his best friend and longtime companion, Tommy, his dog.
John worked and ran Oberlander's Cider Mill for many years and was currently employed at Timken. He had a passion for golf and his home course was Valley View. This was a place where many memories were created. As big as John's passion was for the game of golf, it didn't compare to time with his family and grandson. He will certainly be missed by many friends and family members.
Friends may call from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, July 1 at Wise Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Bucyrus First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Dr. Ray LaSalle officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Contributions may be given to the Crawford County Chapter of the Am. Red Cross through the funeral home.
