Thomas Castanien Obituary
Upper Sandusky - Thomas E. Castanien, age 86, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and formerly of rural Nevada, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018 at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.
Tom was born on February 10, 1931 in Upper Sandusky to Fred and Jessie (Smalley) Castanien.He married Helen Louise Stouffer on September 24, 1951, and she passed away on October 27, 2017.
He is survived by 3 children: Janee Brant of Hilliard, Stephen (Karen) Castanien of Upper Sandusky, Janice (Tom) Scheiber of Attica, Ohio, a stepson, Greg (Penny) Comer of Hamburg, Arkansas. 13 grandchildren, Paula Mullins, Stephanie (Don) Knowlton, Michelle (John) Weldy, Angie (Jaime) Oviedo, Kristin (D.J.) Mangas, Benji (Kristen) Brant, Michael Castanien, Kevin Castanien, Nikki (Blake) Rossel, Scott (Christina) Castanien, Lauren (Adam) Greiner, Meredith Scheiber, Lesley (Megan) Koilparampil, and 21 great grandchildren. Along with a brother Joel (Bonnie) Castanien of Upper Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Douglas Scheiber, a sister, Ann Clinger, a brother Donald, and a son in law, Tim Brant.
Tom was a 1950 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and after graduation farmed his entire life, retiring in 1997. He was an active member of the former Church of God in Upper Sandusky.
For hobbies he enjoyed raising and showing his sheep at county fairs and at the Ohio State fair, along with woodworking, cooking, gardening and canning, and raising bees.
Funeral services for Thomas E. Castanien will be held at 11:00am Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, January 18, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and also 1 hour before service
time on Friday at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wyandot Memorial Hospital and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
