Alfred Hemmings Obituary

HEMMINGS-Alfred Age 88, of Clarence, NY, passed from this world Saturday, October 20, 2007, after a brief illness. Cherished husband of 64 years of Doris Doreen Hemmings; dearest father of Lynn, of Clarence; and beloved uncle of a niece raised from childhood, Tracy Aitken of Richmond, VA. Other survivors include many loving family members in England and Florida. Mr. Hemmings was a pilot and Captain in England's Royal Air Force during World War II and had remained an active member of the RAF Falcon Field Association. After immigrating to Buffalo with his wife and daughter, he joined the Kittinger Furniture Co. He was an expert furniture maker who worked his way up at the Buffalo plant to become president of Kittinger's southern division, the Biggs Co. in Richmond, VA. He and his wife returned to this area after his retirement. A man of kind heart and good humor, he truly was an officer and a gentleman. A private memorial service was held Saturday, October 27 in Clarence Fillmore Cemetery. Arrangements by JOHN O. ROTH FUNERAL HOME. Donations may be made to the SPCA, 205 Ensminger, Tonawanda, NY 14150.

Dear Lynn, it's been many years since we've seen you, but I've thought of you often and Mom kept me updated on how you've been doing. I will keep you in our prayers at this time and know your dad will be in your heart always.

I personally have so many happy memories of my wonderful uncle Alf. He was such a vibrant, infectuously happy man. Throughout my life he has impressed upon me an appreciation of the basic wonders and importance of the world. I feel that I am a better wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and of cource niece. My favourite and much loved Uncle Alf is no longer here on this earth. But, he is with me forever and he has left me with the knowledge that we must cherish, love, protect and understand the people that are still here with us.
I love you Uncle Alf
