Andrew CARTER Obituary

CARTER, Andrew -In loving memory of Andrew J. Carter, 82, of Cheektowaga, NY, who passed away in NH, on May 5, 2010. Andy was born in Buffalo, NY, and attended Holy Name of Jesus School and East High School. During WWII he was stationed aboard the carrier "Midway." He was a distinguished Meat Dept. Manager and was well-loved by his customers and co-workers. In his retirement, he did maintenance and set up bingo at a local church. An accomplished woodworker, home remodeler, artist, cribbage player, car mechanic, and gardener, Andy was also a member of the Black Sheep Motorcycle Club and the Walden-Bailey Social Club in the 50s. Throughout the 60s he was a volunteer fireman and first-aider with Union Fire Co. and enjoyed family camping with the Thundering Herd Camping Club and at Bennington Campground. He had a keen sense of humor and an easy-going, helpful nature. Survivors include three children from his first marriage to Virginia (Reis) Bohanan: Virginia Carter of Walpole, NH, Carol Forsythe of Claymont, DE, and Steven A. Carter, of Hendersonville, NC, as well as four grandchildren, Nick and Mariah Kranowski and Melissa and Scott Forsythe, and two sons-in-law, Paul Kranowski and Mark Forsythe. Andy also enjoyed a three-decade loving relationship with Mary Ussery and her five daughters: Marianne, Diane, Donna, Linda, and Dawn, as well as their husbands, children, grandchildren, and extended family. Mr. Carter had three surviving sisters, Marie, Louise, and Elizabeth, and numerous nieces and nephews. His brother, John, and sister, Arlene, predeceased him. Mr. Carter has been cremated and his ashes distributed according to his wishes. He has been enrolled in perpetual remembrance with daily masses at the Passionist Monastery in Chicago.
