Bernardine KESSING Obituary
Bernardine C.
Died October 15, 2022 in Caldwell, NJ. A catholic priest for 62 years, he once resided in Elmira with his birth-name of Donald G. Kessing and was a 1950 graduate of Elmira Catholic High School. Ordained in 1960, Father Bernardine pastored parishes in Butler, NJ, Rochelle Park, NJ, Fair Lawn, NJ, and Allegany, NY. He subsequently served as the religious superior at a retirement house for senior Friars in Boston. Father Bernardine is survived by his Franciscan confreres in Holy Name (NY) Franciscan Province; 10 nephews and nieces also survive, including Stephen Kessing of Roanoke, VA, Virginia Sheehe of Elmira, NY, Mary Jo "Jodi" (Jack) Quigley of Clarence Center, NY; and a niece-in-law, Rita Kessing of Lebanon, CT. He was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law Frank and Helen; and two nephews, Paul and Robert Kessing. A Mass will be held October 25th in St. Bonaventure Church, Allegany, NY at 11am.
