Brian McDermott
HILLSDALE, NY Brian J. McDermott, 65, of Hillsdale passed away at his home on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009.
Born in Lawrence, Mass., son of John Patrick and Veronica Russell McDermott and sibling of Christine Benton (also deceased) and John "Jack" McDermott, he lived in Columbia County for over 12 years.
Brian was a realtor with Beach and Bartolo Realtors in Spencertown, N.Y. He began his entrepreneurial career as a partner in Wachusett Cablevision in Clinton, Mass. where he designed and constructed cable TV systems.
He was a member of the Hillsdale Volunteer Fire Dept, National Association of Realtors, and was a Level 5 Master Canoeist and avid outdoorsman. He was also a veteran of the Army having served in Germany with the 82nd Airborne Division.
Brian leaves his wife, Sherry Ackerman-McDermott of Castleton; son, Craig P. McDermott of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughters, Patricia A. Haley of Hudson, Mass., and Coreen M. McDermott of Denver, Colo., as well as brother Jack (Debra) McDermott of Hummelstown, Pa. He also leaves step-children, Michael (Kristin) Hourigan Jr. of Castleton, N.Y., John (Carrie) Hourigan of Castleton, Shelley Hourigan of St. Petersburgh, Fla., as well as six grandchildren, four ,nieces, one nephew, and one very enthusiastic motorcycle sidecar companion, his beloved dog Penny.
MEMORIAL NOTICE: Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at the Hillsdale Fire House, Hillsdale, N.Y. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery in Ticonderoga at a later date
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be donated to Hillsdale Volunteer Fire Dept., 9387 State Rt. 22, Hillsdale, NY 12529, or the Columbia-Green Humane Society, 125 Humane Society Road, Hudson, NY 12534.
