MURPHY - Charles Cornelius "Chuck"
April 27, 1953 - June 28, 2023 Chuck died peacefully at his home in Buffalo, where he had recently returned to retire to his childhood roots after a long and thriving career as an international tax expert for Deloitte in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Professionally, Chuck was held in high esteem as a tax expert and experienced attorney. Personally, Chuck was loved for his open heart, unique sensitivities, rare intellect, and sense of humor beyond compare. Chuck was the loving older brother of Kevin Murphy (Elaine) of Hudson, Ohio, and uncle of Sean (Olivia), Laura (Drew) and Connor. Chuck was immensely proud of his nephews, both of whom attended the United States Naval Academy, and niece, Laura, a Cleveland Clinic nurse. Chuck spoke often of his parents, Anne (nee Doherty) and Charles Murphy, who raised their sons in Tonawanda. Mr. Murphy was a chemist and Mrs. Murphy, a registered nurse who trained in New York City. Chuck reflected often on their work ethic and intellect. Chuck manifested these qualities in all his academic endeavors, professional accomplishments, and personal relationships. The family will receive friends at the C. MERTZ AND SON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 911 Englewood Ave. Friday, July 7th from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, where a Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:30 AM. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Chuck had a mind and heart that left a lasting impression on all of those who knew him. He was loyal, sentimental, witty and wise. Chuck had an encyclopedic knowledge of countless topics, every genre of music, pop culture, movies, the law, politics, and public affairs. He never stopped learning. Chuck will be missed in the places he held dear - the yearly Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans, and countless concert venues he frequented with his longtime group of Buffalo musical connoisseurs. This was a unique band of friends whose kinship has spanned the decades. All of Chuck's relatives, will miss Chuck's bold and fun-loving presence at summer gatherings. Chuck loved a lively debate and found joy and good humor in engaging a newcomer or old timer in any topic of interest. In the recent months of his well-deserved retirement, he renewed his youthful interests of playing the electric guitar, keyboards and socializing with old friends. He was an avid and lifelong Buffalo Bills fan. Chuck was an amazing soul who accomplished great things. Memories will remain in our hearts forever, and in the words of his Beatles idol, Ringo Star, "all I have is a photograph." To Chuck's loved ones, my sincere condolences-and to Bill Hine-I heard from Freedman about the news. I remember too many nights in the bars of Buffalo, parties, and some great concerts in Toronto. All my memories of Chuck make me smile.

So saddened to hear this. Just recently started to know Chuck. He would come to north Tonawanda to the farmers market and then come to Galassis. He worked here at Galassis for my dad in the early 70s . So it was awesome that he started stopping in. He would get his half of sub and take home goulash. He would talk about about everything. The Bills , his new car getting stuck in the snow over Christmas, his class reunion , his work , everything. It was a pleasure to know him. He will truly be missed. My condolences. Gail Galassi.

I am saddened to learn of Chucks passing. When I saw a post on Facebook from Chuck and his picture, he always used a picture of him and I remember him young and playing his guitar in his band. Play on Chuck. Rest in peace
