Danelle Barrett Obituary

It is with an unbearably sad heart that we lost Rear Admiral Danelle Marie Barrett, USN Rtd. to a valiant battle against glioblastoma cancer on August 26, 2024. Her ever-devoted husband, Gildardo Vasco; daughter, Hayley-Ann Vasco (Jackson Kettell) Norfolk, VA, mother Mary Hays, step-father Eugene (Pat) Hays, Hamburg, NY were with her. She is also survived by father Robert Barrett, Orchard Park, NY, brothers Thomas (Carrie) Barrett, Little Valley, NY, Bill (Gina) Barrett, Lake View, NY, Mark Barrett, Derby, NY, uncle William (Alyssa) Scheminger, St. Petersburg, FL, aunt Audrey Gleason, Orchard Park, NY, nieces Sydney (Mike) Telaak, Sierra (Chase) Foster, Bea Barrett, and nephews Zachery (Sarah) Barrett, Jack (Demi) Barrett, and her husband's family in Florida and Colombia. Danelle was born in Buffalo on July 20, 1967. She lived in Hamburg, NY until college and, upon graduation, was commissioned in the U.S. Navy. Ever enthusiastic, optimistic, adventurous, honest, and humble, her legacy will be remembered by all who were graced with knowing her. She was hard working, dedicated, loving, kind, funny, with a great sense of humor, and exemplified integrity in both her professional and personal life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Danelle's honor on Thursday, August 29 at 11AM at St. Mary of the Lake Church, 4737 Lake Shore Road, Hamburg, NY 14075. Please assemble at church. A private committal service will be held following the mass. A recording of the mass will be available following the mass on www.LakesideFuneralHome.com on Danelle's tribute page. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boston University Women's ROTC Scholarship at https://trusted.bu.edu/s/1759/2-bu/giving/interior.aspx?sid=1759&gid=2&pgid=450&cid=1100&dids=1317&bledit=1&appealcode=WEBROTC.
