Eileen Keller Obituary

Keller, Eileen A.

Jun 20, 1933 - Apr 21, 2025

Died peacefully on Dyngus Day. She will be buried next to her parents, Agnes and Edward Usiak and her husband, Louis Keller, who predeceased her by a decade. Education was a high priority throughout her life. As a student in the Buffalo Public School System, she was awarded the prestigious Jesse Ketchum Medal. After graduation, she attended Buffalo State College and earned both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. Her career was teaching elementary students in the BPS until her retirement in 1991. Louis was her high school sweetheart and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. They were married on July 20, 1957. Two daughters were born – Suzanne on July 12, 1958 and Christine on June 7, 1968. The former continued the tradition of education with a thirty-year career teaching Human Anatomy and Physiology at Finger Lakes Community College, while the latter is currently the managing partner of Groom Law Group in Washington, D.C. Christine's marriage to William Kearney led to the birth of Eileen's grandson, William Louis Kearney, on June 21, 2008. After her husband's death, Eileen remained close to his siblings, Gene, Paul and Mary, as well as Gene's daughter Karen who was Eileen's godchild. Mary was of particular help to Eileen in her last years as was Lilly Wong and Amy Sweeney. Eileen's Family will receive friends on Friday April 25th from 12-1:30PM at the DENGLER, ROBERTS, PERNA FUNERAL HOME, 8630 Transit Rd., East Amherst, NY with a service held there at 1:30PM. Interment will immediately follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eileen's memory to the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation https://www.alzdiscovery.org. Mrs. Keller was one of the few teachers I remember from going to school in Buffalo. She was more than fair and helped me as I was struggling with spelling. Not only did she help me learn to spell, but I excelled at math under her guidance. With her help I not only improved but years later I was able to help fellow GI's work on passing the GED exams. I only wish I could have told her how she shaped my life, and in turn, how I was able to help others. I have tried to treat others with the same compassion she showed me while I struggled as one of her students. She was a wonderful teacher and I'm sure all of her former students are saddened by the news of her death. She was the best teacher I ever had. My sincerest condolences to her entire family.
