SISTER ELIZABETH (BETTY)BAGEN, GNSH - Formerly Sister Daniel Marie, 81, died September 1, 2017. Born in Buffalo to Daniel T. and Margaret (Jackson) Bagen, on September 10, 1935, Margaret Elizabeth Bagen entered the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart in 1954. Sister Betty earned a BS in Education from D'Youville, an MA in Theology from Villanova University and an MA in Pastoral Ministry from Iona College. With the exception of 5 years teaching primary grades, first at Holy Angels School in Buffalo and then in Atlanta, GA and Philadelphia, PA, the remainder of her religious life saw her working with adults both in the Congregation and in external ministries. From 1968 -1971 she served at D'Youville College, where she taught Theology for a year and then was Director of Residents. In 1971, and again in 2003, she was elected to Congregational Leadership. She had previously served in the Grey Nun Initial Formation process as Mistress of Postulants and Assistant Mistress of Novices for six years. From 1975 to 1982 she served five Catholic Parishes for Catholic Charities in the Allentown Diocese pastoral ministry to the elderly. Moving to Virginia, she served for 10 years at St. Andrew's Parish, Roanoke and then as Pastoral Coordinator at Resurrection Parish in Moneta for 11 years. In 2008, she retired to the Motherhouse in Yardley, PA and then in 2015 to the Magnificat Center of the Holy Redeemer Sisters where she lived until the time of her death. Predeceased by parents and siblings, Mary Seyfried and Thomas P. Bagen. In addition to her religious community, survivors include her sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held at 10 AM on September 9, 2017 in the Holy Redeemer Sisters Chapel, 521Moredon Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem.
