I never had Jim Herlan when I was a Nichols. I took four years of Spanish with Albert R, Sutter--no French with Herlan. But I had friends who took French with him and they were fond of him as well as admiring. What I discovered when I got on Facebook was that I'd acquired a lucid and penetrating and humorous friend and a regular reader of my work at the News as well as just random FB thoughts. I'm going to miss him and no small bit either.

From fifth grade to graduation, Jim was a huge influence, always for the better but always a kick in the butt. Thanks, Jim!

Elaine and Family,my condolences to all of you. Jim was a fellow alumni of Campus School,we shared wonderful memories with and from Jim of our times at school. Jim was one of the senior members of our alumni group and he was a wealth of information. Jim was always kind, and a gentleman through and through.I will miss him, and I will always think of him fondly. May your memories of Jim fill your hearts during this sad time.
