John Donald "Don" O'Connor

John O'Connor Obituary

OCONNOR - John Donald Don October 30, 2008, of Charlotte, NC, and Buffalo, NY. He was born March 6, 1931 in Buffalo, NY, the son of Maurice and Mary McCabe OConnor. Don graduated from South Park High School and Canisius College. A member of the US Marine Corps, he served in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart. After the war, he worked for 34 years in the NY State Labor Department. He also served as a Grand Knight at the Monsignor Nash Council. Don was proud to be an Irish Marine from South Buffalo. He loved good stories, good friends and the great summers spent at Sunset Bay, NY. His smile and sense of humor will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Thompson OConnor; his children, John D. OConnor (Cindy), Kathleen OConnor (John), Colleen OConnor (Josh); stepchildren, Mary Renckens, Tim Renckens (Susan), Tom Renckens (Sarah), Karen Clanton (Sid), Patricia Rankin and 15 grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Buffalo. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Dr., Huntersville, NC 28078 or hpccr.org.
