Todd,

My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. My dad just informed me of your dad's passing, which saddened me greatly. I always enjoyed speaking with him and your mom all those years ago at their home. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.

To Mrs. Kroening, Brent, Lynn, Wendy, David, Todd, and Grandchildren, My earliest memories of Gilbert are at the garage, sitting in the rocking chair, drinking a Johnny Ryan, listening to my dad get free advice about fixing the car from him and Harold. As I taught with him I valued his advice and honest, Christ-centered perspective of life. We sat together on many committees to select students who who would enter BOCES programs. He did much to help young people find their way, encouraging them to think about what is truly of value in life. His work on the 50th anniversary committee was amazing, keeping the group going after Mr. Barone's death. You could tell he was in discomfort but he persevered in the face of his illness. Yet, with all he accomplished in life, his great gift to us, his friends, will be his wonderful family. I am grateful to have experienced your talents, kindnesses and friendship. May God bless you for all you are.

Dear Kroening Family, May our Lord bless you with His Spirit as you grieve your loss. This is a difficult time for you. Some of my memories of Shop and Auto classes under the direction of this fine man:
Mr. Kroening was a great, positive influence in my 1961-1965 tenure at N-W. In class he patiently answered all the crazy questions we teenage boys could pose. I will always be grateful that this man influenced my life 40 plus years ago. I met him again briefly in the late '90s and walked up to shake his hand and greet him. He was the same gentleman of 30 years earlier. He taught me a lot. I will always remember his words "Do not use the grinder on sheet metal!" I continue to follow that rule to this day.

He was so proud of his entire family, and spoke of them often. At this time of your sorrow, Kathy & i will keep you in are prayers. Gilbert was truly a GENTLMAN.

We are going to miss Mr Kroening at band. He would pick my son up and take him to band practice when we couldn't. If he wasn't going he would help find my son a ride. He would also find time to talk to us and see how we were doing. We are very sorry for your loss and he will be missed by all.
