Karl was born in Lackawanna, N.Y., the youngest of ten children of John and Hattie (née Such) Slifka. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He knew almost everyone in his South Buffalo neighborhood, greeting everyone in his path. Karl loved getting dressed up for every celebration and attended them all. After living with his sister Josie for 10 years, he moved in with his sister Dorothy to Lackawanna, where he was her best friend and constant support. Karl spent the last 3 years and 10 months at Mercy Skilled Nursing Facility at OLV. He loved sitting in the Chapel or the lobby, making new friends and greeting the ones he knew. The family appreciates the care he received from the OLV staff. In addition to his parents, Karl was predeceased by six siblings; and is survived by Dorothy, Virginia and John. Friends may call Friday, October 3rd from 3 to 7 pm, at the REDDINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 3855 Seneca Street, West Seneca, same as Hoy Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday October, 4th at 10:30 am, at Our Lady of Victory Basilica, 767 Ridge Rd., Lackawanna, N.Y., please assemble at church. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Activities Department at OLV, 55 Melroy Ave., Lackawanna, N.Y. 14218, or a charity of your choice. The following verse, though heard at most weddings, sums up Karl: "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil " - 1 Corinthians 13: 4-5.
