Kathleen Marzec Obituary

Marzec, Kathleen Marie

(nee Bluhm)

Oct 17, 2025

Of Depew, NY, passed away unexpectedly with her loving husband of 63 years, Daniel D. Marzec, at her side. Kathleen was the devoted mother of Colleen, Valerie Ross (Joseph), and Anthony (Amanda), and grandmother to Dante Ross, Nicole Kaczmarek (Richard), Devon Ross, Samantha Marzec, and Hunter Marzec. She was a loving sister to Thomas (Susanne), Michael (late Nadine), Philip (Janice), Robert (late Barbara), and Mary Suttell. She was predeceased by her parents, Delbert M. Bluhm and Madeline E. (nee Fagan), sister Pamela, and infant brother Douglas. She is survived by many cherished nieces and nephews and precious friends. The family will be present Monday, October 27, from 3-7 pm at WENDEL & LOECHER FUNERAL HOME, 27 Aurora St., Lancaster, NY 14086. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 am on Tuesday, October, 28, at Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 496 Terrace Blvd, Depew, NY. Please assemble at the church. Her remains will be interred at St. Augustine Cemetery in Lancaster. Flowers are gratefully declined. Kathy had many charities close to her heart. Donations may be made to The Children's Hospital of Buffalo Foundation, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Bornhava, the Alzheimer's Association Western New York chapter, or the SPCA Serving Erie County. Kathy's warmth and humor will be missed by all who knew her, and she touched many lives throughout the community. With her husband, she was the operator of two long-running local businesses, Dan Marzec Plumbing and Heating, Inc. and Marzec Hardware. She taught and acted as the CCD Coordinator for grades K-8 at St. Augustine's RC Church in Depew for many years until the church closed in 2009. She loved dogs and over the years took in and tended to countless stray cats. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and as her condition declined, her penchant for lists became a way to remember who she was, the names of family members, and what was important to her. In one notebook entry, she wrote: "Kathy used to: bake, take walks, sew, iron, paint, garden, smile, laugh." Her writings reflected the difficulties of dementia but also the blessings around her. "I'm lost. It's crazy," she wrote earlier this year, eventually concluding, "Beautiful day. Praise be to God." Share condolences at wendelandloecherinc.com
