Leyla Diana SOMIT

SOMIT - Leyla Diana April 15, 1926 - February 15, 2016 Leyla was the wife of Albert Somit, U.B.'s Executive-Vice President (1970-1980) and Acting President during President Ketter's sabbatical in early 1977. She died in California where, as she desired, her body was dedicated to science and medical education. Unconstrained by convention, Leyla was a devotee of the arts, enjoying ballet, opera, good books, good food and wine, laughter, and sharp wits. She largely ignored Alzheimer's Disease for almost a decade, viewing the loss of memory as insignificant, when compared to the "joie de vivre" of living in the present. A stroke finally terminated those pleasures. She will be remembered and missed by her husband, two sons, five incumbent or previous daughters-in-law, five grandchildren, a great-granddaughter (whom she never met), and many friends.
