Marguerite MOHR Obituary

MOHR - Marguerite
August 26, 2021. With the exception of her college years at Fredonia State, Marguerite, aka, "Aunt Marguerite," a person who believed that Anderson's frozen custard could make any day better, lived for 92 years in Depew, in the home built by her parents in 1927. She was especially proud of her father's role in the town's heritage. Aunt Marguerite taught music for many years at West Seneca West High School. Strong-willed, lover of a good joke, and extremely generous by nature, Aunt Marguerite treasured her friendships with neighbors and colleagues. In later years, she relied on the assistance of a "wonderful" team of caretakers. Aunt Marguerite was predeceased by her beloved parents, the late Jacob and Irene (née Crane) Mohr and her siblings, Catherine Mohr, Jacob (Marjorie) Mohr and Anne (Dr. John) Conboy; she is survived by her sister, Mary (late, Dr. Albert) Lamp, many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews who will dearly miss her. No prior visitation. A Graveside Service will be conducted at Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, 4125 Union Rd., Cheektowaga, NY 14223 on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 10:30 AM. On behalf of my Beardsell family, I want to extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to the family. Miss Mohr taught music to my sisters and I at Lincoln Elementary School. I still sing many of the songs she taught us, especially those at holiday times. She also taught my two oldest sisters to play the piano. Miss Mohr was a friendly face in our Northside Depew neighborhood. In time, our son delivered newspapers to her. Many generations enjoyed seeing and talking to her as we passed by the house. We have many fond memories of Miss Mohr. She will be missed.

"Aunt" Marguerite was one of a kind. She shared her struggles and went through them with honesty, strength, and dignity. She always stood up for the underdog and helped so many in big and small ways. Her kindness touched lives and the recipient often never knew it was from her. I am glad she welcomed me to be part of her life.

Deepest sympathy at the passing of Miss Mohr. I had her for a music teacher at West Seneca West (there was no East) Middle School. I vividly remember how she taught us about musicals. Two I most remember is West Side Story and Bye Bye Birdie. She would partially act the parts and play the music from a vinyl record on of all things...a record player, imagine that! She was wonderful! I also remember her teaching us about the piece, The Grand Canyon Suite. I was also in her chorus. I remember her teaching us proper enunciation for especially the 3 P words in "Do You Hear What I Hear" 3 P words pray, peace and people. She always had her hands properly clasped and stood straight and tall in the front of the room. And don´t even THINK about chewing gum in her class. She was a terrific teacher, much loved by her students. Rest In Peace Miss Mohr.

I was fortunate to be in Miss Mohr's chorus at West Seneca along with probably 50-60 other kids. Under her direction we performed the chorus of Handel's Messiah for a holiday recital. Her enthusiasm and can-do attitude was contagious. It must have been like herding cats to manage such a large group of restless teens, but she was committed and insisted on the best from us. I think we made her proud because she wasn't stingy with praise and she made everyone in her vicinity so glad were in her chorus. She will be making heavenly music now. God Bless!

I was in her class while in the 7th grade at West Seneca West Junior High School in 1965. She was a great teacher and a kind soul. I remember she requested we all go see "The Sound of Music." I did, and to date must have seen it 100 times thanks to her suggestion. She lived a good long productive life. You were terrific. I hope you can teach music in Heaven. RIP Miss Mohr.
