Marie Hughes, of Marco Island, Florida, passed suddenly of heart related health issues, on November 29, 2025. She loved Marco Island where she had lived for over 20 years with her loving husband and best friend Bob.

Marie was born in Buffalo, NY on May 28, 1937, to Rocco and Theresa DiPietro (Petti). She worked in the corporate travel industry in Buffalo and after moving to New York City in 1969 became the travel manager for fortune 500 companies, including CBS, Allied Corp. and Johnson & Higgins. Her work enabled her to see a great part of the world and make many friends who loved her.

She married Bob in 1975 in New York City and became a step-mom to Christopher (Doreen) whom she loved greatly. They made their home in and around the city. She retired in 1989, and Bob joined her in 1998. They had a wonderful life together as best friends enjoying travel and sports, cultural events and their two dogs, Jessica and Virginia. She was a member of several groups on Marco Island and had many friends, who when added to the friends and family in Buffalo and New York City gave her endless contacts and she was loved by all.

Marie was a member of the Island Country Club on Marco Island and enjoyed all of its activities especially tennis and golf. She was a member of the San Marco Catholic Church. Music was a significant love and she joined Church choirs and Chorales in the Hudson Valley of NY and Marco Island. She sang classical chorale music and sang in Carnegie Hall five times with the Camarota Chorale.

Marie was the youngest of six and is predeceased by Isadore, Carl, John, Rocco, and her dearest sister Terry. She is survived by Bob, stepson Christopher (Doreen), niece Susan (Christopher), nephew Gregory (Holly) and many nieces, nephews and cousins in America, Canada and Italy. A special notice of great nephew Bryce (Alexis) and great niece Brooke (Kyle) both of whom are like grandchildren to her and Bob.

A Funeral Mass will be held at San Marco Catholic Church, 851 San Marco Rd, Marco Island, FL on January 15, 2026, at 10:30 am followed by interment of her ashes in the garden and a reception in the Parish Hall. Arrangements are entrusted to Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home, Marco Island, FL.
