Beloved husband of Penny (McCluskey) Derr; loving father of Melissa (Dave) Anderson, Grace Derr and Gabby Derr; dearest grandfather of Casper, Brody, Emmett and Oliver Anderson; son of Carolyn Derr and Robert E. (Sue Kilbey) Derr; brother of Scott (Traci) Derr and Fred (Hillary Burr) Derr; also survived by in-laws and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive relatives and friends at the WENDEL & LOECHER INC. FUNERAL HOME 27 Aurora St. Lancaster, NY Saturday from 1-8 pm. The family wishes guests wear red in Bob's memory. In lieu of flowers donations may be made the transplanthouseofcleveland.org or the lungtransplantfoundation.org

Dear Carolyn, Bob, Scott, Fred and family,

What a terrible loss for all of you. Can't imagine the pain you are feeling. May your special memories bring you some peace in the days ahead.
We remember when you first moved here. The boys were so young, you were living out on Riley Wills Rd. Definitely in the country. A bit scary at nite but they loved it, especially at Halloween.
We remember too, the big beautiful house you built. Perfect for your growing boys. Lots of parties and craziness. They all worked hard helping around the house.
They were great brothers, got along even with such different temperaments. Little Bobby was so smart. You just knew he would do great things. And he did. What an extraordinary legacy. Simply gone too soon.
The message from his "bonus child" was beautiful. Felt like we got to know the grown up Bobby and the amazing life he made.
Sadly, we lost touch over the years but you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Though there are no words for such a loss, please accept our sincere condolences.

Bob was a great person. As a friend of his brother Fred, my fondest memories of Bob centered around the annual Derr brother’s pilgrimage to Ohio State. Too many laughs to count and many memorable moments.

When I think of Bob, what I remember most is not necessarily the conversations we had, but more so, how welcome he made me feel.

Bob was a teaching attending I'll never forget. He was always so approachable and friendly. He managed to make me smile even during some of the most chaotic shifts at Children's Hospital when I was a resident many years ago. I rarely look through obituaries, but I was drawn to this today. I'm so sad to hear of his passing, and I hope that it brings you some comfort to know how lucky we all were to have him in our life. Thank you, Dr. Bob, for all of your lessons.

Bob was a great guy and fun to hang out with. I am a good friend with Bob’s brother Fred and will fondly remember Bob from Buckeye football weekends in Columbus. Thanks for welcoming in the crew from the northeast and showing us how it’s done. Inside joke but the ice bucket story stands out in memory

I’m a close friend of Bob’s mom, Carolyn. I never had the privilege of meeting Bob, but I feel I know him through Carolyn. Her love for her son was beautiful as is her love for all her family. Through Carolyn it was clear that Bob was an extraordinary man. My heart and prayers are with his family.

I’m so sorry to hear of Dr. Derr’s passing. He was a wonderful teacher and mentor to me as a resident in Buffalo. I’ll never forget little Gabby admitted to the ICU with RSV, needing nasal prong oxygen, and insisting on sleeping folded forward. Dr. Derr was so kind and gentle with her. My heart goes out to his family. I hope you can breathe a little easier now Dr Derr.

Bob, you were my very first nephew who made me an Aunt. We are, and have always been, so proud of you and your accomplishments. There isn't a person in the world who would have met you and not seen what an incredible human being you were. You will live on in the hearts of many many people who's lives you have touched. To Penny and the girls, I am so sorry for your loss! Bob was such a caring doctor but he lived his family so much and that’s how he treated people. Kids and parents were in great hands when he was working. He will be missed!
