Ruth B. Noller

NOLLER - Dr. Ruth B. (nee Brendel) June 3, 2008, age 85, of Sarasota FL, formerly of Buffalo, NY; wife of David C. Noller of Sarasota, FL; mother of David Carl Noller of Cape Coral, FL and Paul John Noller of Venice, FL; grandmother of Bryan Noller of Clayton, NC, Caren Pare of Venice, FL and James Ranieri of Ft. Myers, FL; great-grandmother of two with two on the way. Services will be held Saturday July 12th at 11 AM in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Buffalo, NY. Rev. David Selzer officiating. Ruth served in WWII: U.S. Navy, LTJG, Mathematics/Engineering Officer at Harvard University Mathematics Lab (Second Female Naval Officer trained as a Computer Programmer -first was Grace Hopper.) She held a B.A., Ed.M and Ed.D., University of Buffalo and was SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus, Acting Director of Interdisciplinary Center for Creative Studies from which she retired in 1982. Ruth received awards from Whos Who of American Women; Computer Pioneer; Inducted into Creative Education Foundations Hall of Fame; Received Distinguished Leader, Service and Commitment Awards. She was a member of Chi Omega, Delta Kappa Gamma and the American Association of University Women (AAUW). (Thoughts from Dr. Scott Isaksen) Ruth never sought the spotlight. Most of her contributions were done in a quiet and competent manner, often serving as the number two- behind the scenes. For those of us who knew her, Ruth has influenced us in a deep and lasting way. Our lives have been enriched through her pioneering efforts and now we must continue our own journeys - in light of her marvelous example.
