Salvatore CICATELLO Obituary

CICATELLO - Salvatore Angelo Age 87, was called to rest on December 16, 2013 in his home in Newbury Park, California. Sam was born on Christmas Day,1925 to Angelo and Mary Cicatello in Buffalo, New York. He joined the Navy in 1944 and spent the next 2 years traveling the world as a motor machinist's mate on a patrol escort mainly in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Upon his return, he met and married Mary Locurcio in a double wedding ceremony with his sister and her brother on June 19, 1948. This year Sam and Mary celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Sam worked construction for many years before retiring from his job as a general maintenance technician for the City of Buffalo after 29 years. He spent the next several years taking ocean cruises with his wife and many of their wonderful friends. But Sam's greatest joy and pride was his lifetime affiliation with the American Legion and VFW Post #205 in Kenmore, New York. He especially enjoyed marching in the Memorial Day parade every year and was known for his great patriotism. There was never a holiday when the flag wasn't flying high and proud at the Cicatello house. He lived in Buffalo, New York for 80 years before moving to California to be closer to his daughter who assisted him with his failing health in his later years. But he never got over leaving his beloved Buffalo and their famous chicken wings. In addition to his wife Mary, Sam is survived by his children, Robert (Marian) of Atlanta, Georgia, Richard of Houston, Texas and Kathleen (Gregory) Dale of Newbury Park, California and his sister Constance (Herman) Cirocco of Cookeville, Tenessee. He will also be remembered as a loving grandfather to Michael Cicatello, Laura and Emily Dale, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will now be reunited in heaven with his brother Anthony and sister Anna (Locurcio). Per his request, no public service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on his behalf to the United States veteran organization of your choice.

We celebrate this life, this Man and his Country. Without his sacrifice, we would not be the country we are. I salute and recognize this Man. My Thanks to you,

Sal will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful, thoughtful and helpful neighbor. Sal lived next door to us and always kept a watchful eye out on our home when we were away. We'll miss that and his always friendly waves and hellos from his front porch. Our prayers and sympathies go out to Mary and Katie and the rest of the family.
