Once upon a time, I was interviewed on live TV by Commander Tom, regarding a community organization I was working for. He sensed my anxiety, and put my mind at ease. He was compassionate, friendly and a true professional. The City of Good Neighbors lost a legend. My condolences to his family and friends. He touched many lives in a positive way. Cherish the memories.

My deepest condolences on the loss of your husband, father, and friend. Commander Tom was a seminal figure in my childhood, and I avidly watched every show - Commander Tom portrayed what a decent, patient man was like, and one of my childhood delights was when he named me as a member of the Do-Gooders Club on the show! As a little girl, I definitely had an innocent crush on Commander Tom, and will always remember when he visited my school in full Commander Tom regalia - he watched our first grade play, handed out signed photos, posed for pictures, and was a gracious, class act - May he live forever in our collective memories, and may you find comfort in the knowledge that he´s at peace and continues to live you until you are reunited.

My verry sincere condolences to the Jolls family. Where do I start with channel 7. Met my organ teacher there: Johnny Johnson from Dialing for DOLLARS. Did a commercial for Weight Loss Clinic back in the 80's. Knew Irv Weinstein thru a friend of mine Peter Scaccia from the sheriff's department. All of these guys were legends. They were the only news in Buffalo that anybody wanted to listen to. Times were much, much, simpler then. Friend of Jackie Jocko's said at one time: when did we get old? How did it happen? Another legend gone like Tom not too long ago. May the family of Tom Jolls have much better days ahead. Hope Tom, Rick, and Irv are all in a better place doing what they enjoy the most. Would like to attend services but cannot.....No car. At Brothers of MERCY SENIOR Apartments #208. 716 994 2013......God Love You All.....forgot to mention....watched commander Tom all the time......Later....

To the family of Tom Jolls: Those of us who grew up in WNY in the 1960's and '70's were touched by the kindness of Commander Tom, our after school television pal. He was kind, calm, cheerful and hopeful -- qualities that resonated with children, even if they didn't recognize them as such at the time. I also have vivid memories of Tom Jolls, ace weatherman, standing outside in classic dead-of-winter Buffalo snowstorms, giving us the forecast, and always with a smile. I have heard Tom Jolls described as a quiet and private man, true to his family. I am grateful for his public persona which he shared so generously with his viewers. It touched many lives with an ordinary decency which was, in fact, extraordinary. So many of us WNYers, now dispersed to the four winds, still keep those childhood memories, including Commander Tom, dear in our hearts. Much love to your extended family as you move through this difficult period.

My condolences to the Jolls family. I will always remember him as Commander Tom. A boyhood friends mother Mrs. Brayman worked at the studio then and I still have the photo postcard of Commander Tom in an early uniform with Dustmop and other puppets. I had met Dave Thomas from Rocketship Seven at a signing in E.Aurora and he was surprised I had the postcard from his show. I had always wanted to see Tom and get his card signed and hear what he had to say about the show back in the 60's -70's. Glad to have grown up with that show.

Dear Family - condolences and prayers to get you through this sad time. I do have a memory to share with you - working at the IRS in 1972 your husband and dad called the Public Affairs office where I worked - I was 18 years old at the time - we sent out news releases and he must have been calling about one of those - anyway - I always had to ask who was calling and when he said, Tom Jolls, I was so surprised - I responded - oh, Commander Tom! He laughed - I was so thrilled. God Bless him.

To the Jolls family: Certainly a life well lived off and on the TV screen. One of my fondest childhood memories was when Commander Tom visited my school, Willow Ridge Elementary in the late 1960's. What a treat it was to meet one of our hero's who actually spoke to each of us and exhibited a real interest in the group and made us feel important and relevant. 68 years of marriage speaks volumes about the commitment Mr. and Mrs. Jolls had to each other and the importance of family in their lives. RIP Commander and know that you impacted so many in a positive fashion and continue to do so as we reflect back on our life experiences.
