William Hill Obituary

Hill, William J., Ph.D

January 20, 1940 - October 13, 2023

Of Williamsville, NY, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 13, 2023, he was 83. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara (nee Heaton) to whom he was married to for 58 wonderful years. He is survived by his loving daughters Cathi (Peter) Mehnert and Cheryl (Charles) Call; cherished grandchildren Ryan, Kara, Madeline and Emma; dear sister-in-law Fran Hill; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. William, known to his friends as Bill, was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada on January 20,1940, he was the youngest of three sons to the late Dr. Nicholas and Emily (nee Richardson) Hill and predeceased by his dear brothers Richard and Donald (late Beverley) Hill. Bill ventured from his home in Canada to attend Princeton University. While at Princeton he was the starting goalie for the varsity hockey team (Go Tigers!) and obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering. After Princeton, he went on to obtain his PhD in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin. Upon graduation he accepted a job offer in Buffalo, NY at Allied Signal (now Honeywell Intl) where he worked the majority of his career. During his time at Allied Signal/Honeywell he became a Six Sigma Master Blackbelt where he trained work groups on quality improvement- he always believed in "Doing it right the first time". A few of his biggest professional accomplishments were receiving the Shewhart Medal, William G. Hunter Award and authoring many professional publications. Upon retiring, he volunteered his time to train quality principles to organizations within the United Way and made such an impact that he was awarded the "Making A Difference" award. His greatest life accomplishment, however, was being a devoted husband, loving father and amazing Papa. Bill will be remembered for his friendliness, kind heart and gentle nature. He had a very strong sense of family and friendship and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Friends and family are invited to visitation at North Presbyterian Church, 300 North Forest Road, Williamsville at 10:30am on Saturday, October 21, 2023 with Bill's celebration of life to immediately follow at the church at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bill's memory to the American Diabetes Association. Bill was a 50 year survivor of Type I diabetes. Please share condolences at www.AMIGONE.com.
