Obituary: William T. McCormick

CLEARWATER, FL - William T. McCormick, 81, passed away on January 31, 2024, in Clearwater, Florida. Born on November 24, 1942, Bill, as he was fondly known, lived a life filled with generosity, sociability, and love for his family and friends.

Bill was a respected Spanish Teacher at Hamburg High School from 1970 to 1999, where he shared his passion for languages and nurtured countless students. His dedication to education extended beyond the classroom, as he traveled the world, with student groups and his family, immersing himself in different cultures and broadening horizons. He was an active member of the Hamburg Teachers' Association and Phi Delta Kappa organization of educators.

Born and raised in New Castle, Pennsylvania, Bill attended Cardinal Mooney High School before pursuing higher education at Youngstown State University, University of Dayton, and Canisius University.

In his spare time, Bill enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, and spending cherished moments with his family and friends.

Bill is survived by his loving daughters, Melissa (Michael) Szykowny of Avon, CT and Laura (Nathan) Low of Hamburg, NY, as well as his adored grandsons, Jacob and Ryan Szykowny, and Casey and Connor Low. He is also survived by his brother, John (Judy) McCormick of New Castle, PA. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Laura McCormick, his mother, Mary Agnes McCormick, and father, James McCormick.

A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery's Serenity Mausoleum on Saturday, April 6th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Journey's End Refugee Services, causes that were close to Bill's heart.

Bill will be remembered for his friendly disposition, passion for education, and his zest for life. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Melissa and Family
My wife and I were devastated to hear of your Dad's passing. We were friends from Imperial Cove. Your Dad would always stop for a chat and sometimes share a joke. He played a part in finding us a unit to rent in IC back in 2013. For some reason he had an affinity for Canadians and especially Newfoundlanders. Thank you for sharing him with a lot of peoples.Your Dad will be missed, Imperial Cove will never be the same

To the McCormick Family, we are Canadians and have been winter residents of Imperial Cove for about 25 years and knew both Laura and Bill. Over the years have shared stories of children, granchildren and travels. We were saddened to hear of his passing and wanted to add our sympathy to you and yours.
Being of Bill's age (and older) I'm sure we would all wish to make our exit quickly and quietly but we do realize how shocking and sad it is for his family.
Our thoughts are with you and remember the good times.
