Yuri, it has been a minute since we've seen each other, however, I have nothing but fond memories at your house down by the water... and every time we ran into each other at the Broadway market. You always had that smile on your face... It will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace old friend...

I grew up next to Yuri and his family. I have fond memories of Yuri playing make believe games with us. Although a little older, he was kind to indulge our childish fantasies of knights, damsels and villains.

All my love and deepest sympathy and prayers for the family and friends of Yuri. While I only knew him for a short time while working on Ukranian efforts, I had known him to be the kindest and most caring soul not only for the Ukranian community but for all in need. I was so blessed to know him. He will be truly missed, but his legacy will live on as we continue the work that he strived so hard for. As the darkness came on the day of the eclipse and his passing, may the light that came soon after represent his spirit that will live on for us all. Rest in peace our dear friend.

I'm deeply saddened to hear about Yuri's passing. He was such a cherished part of our community and his presence will be sorely missed. I am so glad Yuri´s friends organized all the events last summer for him and that I was able to join him on the fire boat cruise. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.

My deepest sympathies to Yuri’s friends and family. He was sweetest, friendliest man to work with. I used to work with him at ECDSS ( different department) and would help coordinate our yearly Day of Caring outings. How cool was it that our co-worker was also on the Central Terminal Restoration Board and was able to give us private tours after our shifts?!? It wasn’t even like work, he made it fun and educational. I’m sure he will be truly missed!

I met Yuri as a new Director on the Central Terminal Restoration Corp. Board over a decade ago. It was clear from the beginning that his knowledge, passion, and leadership were talents that one needed to learn from and take stock of. Yuri was open and welcoming, freely sharing his knowledge and ideas. He listened to opinions without judgment, offering suggestions to hone one's views. I quickly felt a kinship with him, especially when I learned of his passion for Buffalo, the East Side, and the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood. We would support each other's projects and work together to support ideas and direction regarding the Terminal.

His passion for the Terminal's Urban Habitat was unquestionable. He planted many trees, plants, and grasses there. He nurtured the idea of a community greenspace and ecology education where neighbors could find respite in a natural setting and connect more with it. He had many ideas for improvements—a windmill to circulate water into the retention-filtering pond, rain garden cutaways on Memorial Drive to help filter street runoff, and holiday lighting at Memorial Circle. We planted many trees together, replacing those that were damaged.

His love for the community was evident. We'd discuss public transit routes for extending light rail to the airport and south towns - as late as a few weeks ago. He was knowledgeable and engaged in everything he did. He was also a model mentor to many - including me. I will miss his Leadership, guidance, and wisdom, but not his spirit. That will be with us forever. Life is short, and often, if one is lucky, one may have a handful of people who cross our path and genuinely make their mark in the world, and with that on us. Yuri is one of those people.

I will miss you deeply, my friend. I'll plant trees while thinking of you. May you rest in peace.

Condolences to Yuri's family and to all who were touched by his presence. He was truly a great man and I consider myself blessed to have known him. A tremendous loss for the local community. I think it's symbolic that on the day he passed, the solar eclipse blanketed the mid day sky in darkness for a few minutes only to return to brilliant sunshine soon afterward, and I would like to think that this represents his spirit that will live on. Rest in peace my friend.

We lived next door to Hreshchyshyns growing up. I cannot believe Yuri has passed away! He was a great kid and we had fun with him and his siblings as kids. I saw him recently in the news and I would have never guessed he wasn’t well. May God bless you all and may the angels come to greet your brother and bring him to his resting place.

Adrian, Kusia and all of the loved ones of Yuri,
Yuri's kindness and generosity was never on display. He silently moved in and out to drop donations, encouraging words and support. Not one for the spotlight, Yuri preferred to give of himself humbly and anonymously. Every time we would discuss a case, Yuri always put himself in the client's shoes. Compassion times 100. I pray peace and comfort for his loved ones. The Calasanctius community is with you.

We all lost a great friend and a very extraordinary person this week. Yuri Hreshchyshyn lived a life of generosity, community service and self-sacrifice. Yuri exemplified the prescription to build a better world for all humanity by “thinking globally and acting locally.” Yuri shared his kindness, wisdom, and compassion with everyone he met from the East Side of Buffalo to the villages of war-ravaged Ukraine. Vichnaya pamyat. Eternal memory. May you Rest in Peace with the Lord, my dear friend.

Although I only knew Yuri briefly, my experience working with him was very positive due to his calm and thoughtful nature. I was also very impressed with the courage he displayed as he dealt with illness and personal challenges related to his home. As such, Yuri set an example for a positive way to deal with the hardships we all endure in life. I send my sincerest sympathies to his friends and family.

Years ago, I had the opportunity to work with this tireless young man, Yuri, in several organizations, among them UCCA and Ukrainian businessmens association. We would meet at our business establishment and draft newsletters and flyers for upcoming events. He was a wealth of information, and was a great humanitarian. He was one of the kindest people I had ever had the privilege of knowing. The Ukrainian community as well as many other organizations will feel the void with his passing. May Yuri rest in peace. My sincere heartfelt condolences go out to his family. Vichnaya Pamyiat.
