Wanda Henderson Obituary

Wanda (Garrett) Henderson
May 19, 1938 - August 11, 2024

Wanda (Garrett) Henderson, born May 19, 1938, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Pine Lodge Residential Care Facility with her beloved family by her side. She was the daughter of Elvin and Edna (Richerson) Garrett. She grew up just south of Buffalo with her five siblings: Jesse, Helen, George, Joyce, and Roger. Wanda attended Macedonia Elementary, a one room country school, which still stands on the farm that Ellis and Wanda later purchased. At age 12, Wanda was saved, she later joined Union Mound Baptist Church and was baptized. She attended Buffalo High School while also working as a telephone operator. Wanda graduated in the spring of 1956. In June of 1956, she wed Ellis Henderson and together raised three boys on a dairy farm in Dallas County. Wanda also worked outside of the home and farm at various jobs through the years.
Wanda enjoyed furniture auctions and going antique hunting. She even had several stores in Buffalo. She loved to travel with family or friends and especially loved driving to the Smokey Mountains in the Fall.
Later when the grandchildren arrived, she devoted her time to them. Wanda loved to cook for her family and did so on most Sundays. Lots of good food and playtime for the kids, now make for great memories they will cherish. Wanda had deep Christian values which she made sure to share with family and especially with her grandchildren.
She will be missed dearly and remembered fondly.
Wanda is survived by her three sons: Hollis Henderson and wife Jill, Tony Henderson and wife Debi, Curtis Henderson, one sister, Helen (Garrett) Holiday. Grandchildren Brandy Henderson, Chelsey and husband Marcus Ownby, Cassie and husband Ricky Viets, Kylee and husband Logan Labby, Dustin Henderson and wife Jasmine, and Coltin Henderson, great-grandchildren Audrey Vest, Kinsley and Jud Ownby, Madden, Berkeley and Ellie Viets, Lincoln and Karter Labby, and Layla Henderson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eliis, parents, Elvin and Edna Garrett, brothers, Jesse, George, and Roger Garrett, and one sister Joyce (Garrett) Barnhart.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Dallas County Library.
