Alberta Randall Obituary

IOWA CITY – Alberta (Hall) Randall passed away in Iowa City on Thursday, February 4, 2021.

Alberta was born April 29, 1923, in Clear Lake, Iowa to Dr. Albert A. and Adalaide (Wheeler) Joslyn. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1941. Alberta was crowned Miss Clear Lake that same year, and went on to be named Miss North Iowa. Alberta attended Cornell College for two years and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1945 with a degree in elementary education. She went on to teach kindergarten.

On June 16, 1945, she married Reeves Hall. They raised their three children – Dave, Ann, and Jim – in Independence. Shortly after Reeves' death on March 2, 1979, Alberta moved to Iowa City. There, she met Bob Randall and they were married on February 18, 1989. They enjoyed 18 years together.

Alberta was active in PEO for many years, a long-time member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, a diehard Hawkeye fan, and a wonderful friend to many people. Berta enjoyed tennis, poetry, traveling to visit her family, Fourth of July celebrations in Clear Lake, dressing up for Halloween, dancing, singing, and sharing her joy with everyone she met.

Berta had a love for life that inspired others and motivated us all to cherish every moment with her. She was quick witted and always the life of the party. She loved spending time with her family and friends and cherished every opportunity to brighten someone's day. She was a great listener and always took sincere interest in the lives of others.

Alberta is survived by her sons, David (Lynn) and Jim (Allison); her brother, Tom Joslyn, two stepchildren, Bill Randall and Mary Bailey; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harper; a sister, Kathryn; her husband, husbands, Reeves Hall and Bob Randall; and her daughter, Ann Murray.

Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. A memorial will be held at a later date.

She was such a gracious, sincere, interesting and lovely woman. Really exceptional. She was a friend of my mother but she was wonderful to me, too.

Alberta was a wonderful, kind & caring neighbor and the toast of the neighborhood on Halloween when she dressed up to greet trick or treaters. She was a special friend & loved by those of us raising our families in the neighborhood. Blessings on her long life.
