Esther McBride Obituary

Independence - Esther A. McBride, 91, of Shakopee, Minn., formerly of Independence, died on Friday, March 25, at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Shakopee, Minn., following a short illness.
She was born on Dec. 3, 1919, in Chaska, Minn., the daughter of Henry Frederick and Mary Agnes (Derhaag) Werner. She graduated from high school in Chaska, Minn., in 1937. On Nov. 2, 1940, she and Robert Donald Nelson were married at the Moravian Church in Chaska, Minn. He preceded her in death in 1955. On Oct. 18, 1964, she and Gene Russell McBride were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence. He preceded her in death in 2002. During World War II, Mrs. McBride made .25- and .50-caliber bullets at Twin City Ordinance in New Brighton, Minn. She was an inspector at Micro Switch in Independence for several years before becoming a supervisor in the dietary department at Peoples' Memorial Hospital Extended Care in Independence. She retired in 1986. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence. She was a member of the Kings Daughters and Declaration Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 27B (and Past Matron) in Independence for over 50 years. She was formerly active in AARP, Chautauqua Literary, and the Buchanan County Tourism Bureau.
Mrs. McBride is survived by a son, Robert D. (Taryn) Nelson, Shakopee, Minn.; a daughter, Mary L. Trost, Jordan, Minn.; three stepsons: Mark (Esther) McBride, Silver Springs, Md., Tom (Mary) McBride, Davenport, and Todd (Angela) McBride, Des Moines; a stepdaughter, Lisa (Royce) Hammett, Mingo; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; three great grandchildren; and seven step great grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Dennis Trost.
Memorial Services were held Friday, April 1, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence. Burial was in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Hazleton.
