Carl Dvorak Obituary

Longtime Burlington resident Carl Joseph Dvorak passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013 at Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital in Burlington. He was 94 years old.

Carl was born Sept. 30, 1919, in Spearville, Kan. to Joseph and Lydia (Parthe) Dvorak. He was one of three children.

Carl attended a country school near his home up through the 8th grade. He then attended and graduated high school in Spearville. He went on and attended 2 years at Wichita State, and graduated from Fort Hays University with a teaching degree.

Carl taught country school for a year at the same school he attended and then was drafted into the Army, where he was stationed at Victoria, Texas.

Carl married Helen Geraldine Stein on July 20, 1942 in Victoria, Texas. It was shortly after that, he was called to serve during WWII.

After the war, Carl and Gerry moved to Burlington, where they farmed, ranched and raised their family.

Carl was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and was very active in the building of the new church.

He was a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, served on the board for Dynamic Dimensions, Inc., was involved in 4-H and served as a leader for many years, helping in agriculture and cattle projects, received recognition in soil conservation and High Ten Sugar Beet Programs.

Carl was a good man with good values, a hard worker, and always had a good sense of humor.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Esther and one granddaughter Alana Leigh Dvorak.

He is survived by his wife Helen, his children Jim (Darlene), Dee (Tom) Schlosser, and Norbert (Betsy), all of Burlington. His grandchildren Todd (Audra) Schlosser of Burlington, Diann (Cully) Holmes of Castle Rock, Paula (John) Wilson of Knoxville, Tenn., Kristen (Brett) Petersen of McKinney, Texas, Jenifer (Sean) Martin of Watkins, Cary (Heather) Schlosser of Burlington, Rachel (Phillip) Gleason of Draper, Utah, Caroline (Cody) Pierpoint of Rock Springs, Wyo., Kimberly Dvorak of Kenai, Alaska, and Molly (Devin) Leabo of Williamsburg, Va.

He is also survived by his great grandchildren; Mackenzie Peterson, Cameron Holmes, Heath Petersen, Briar Schlosser, Wesley Holmes, Sierra Holmes, Chase Wilson, Claire Martin, Charlie Gleason, James Martin, Colton Schlosser and Carter Pierpoint.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Carl will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at 1 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Burlington with Father Bob Newbury, Father Norbert Dlabal and Deacon Norbert Ohnmacht officiating.

Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Burlington with Military Honors provided by Burlington VFW Post 6491.

Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church with a Parish Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made in Carl's name to Burlington VFW Post 6491 and may be left at or sent to the Frontier Bank, 107 South 14th St., P.O. Box 700, Burlington, CO 80807.

Friends may go to www.lovefuneralhomes.com to sign the family's online register book and leave an online message of condolence.

Funeral services were entrusted to Love Funeral Home in Burlington.
