ALICE CAROLINE (STORY) BLACKWELL NORTH HERO - Mrs. Alice Caroline Blackwell, age 94 years, a 70 year resident of North Hero, died early Wednesday morning, Jan. 5, 2011 in the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester. Born in Yonkers, N.Y. on March 8, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Alliene (Baker) Story. She attended Burlington High School and on Feb. 24, 1935 was married to her beloved husband, Irving Watson Blackwell, who predeceased her on Feb. 21, 2010, following 76 years of marriage. Alice was very active in the North Hero community and the United Methodist Church. She founded and chaired for many years the WSCS Antique Show, sang in the church choir and taught Sunday School. As an accomplished artist, seamstress and baker, she taught 4-H cooking classes as well as art to the school children. She leaves her two sons and their wives, Barry and Alison Blackwell of Melrose, Mass., and Bruce and Charlotte Blackwell of Geneva, Switzerland; six grandchildren, Marc, TinTin, Susanna, Andrew, and Sasha Blackwell, and Sarah Sutera; three great-grandchildren; and a devoted niece, Carole (Sis) Durham and her husband, Carlton, of North Hero. A Funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 at 1 p.m. from The North Hero United Methodist Church, 3235 Vermont US Route 2 in North Hero Village. The Reverend Timothy Atwater will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. Interment will take place at 3:15 p.m. at the Blackwell family lot in Hyde Cemetery.
