CHERRY CLARK Obituary

CHERRY LEE CLARK - BURLINGTON - Cherry Lee Clark, 64, passed away unexpectedly in Panama City, Panama on Wednesday June 13, 2012. She was born April 28, 1948, in Mineville, N.Y., to George Carson and Ruth Rumney. She graduated from Moriah Central High School in 1966, and later graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1981 with a degree in psychology. Cherry lived in the Old North End of Burlington for many years and was very active in her community. She started the Rose Street Neighborhood Association, with a goal of fixing up Rose Street and helping its people. She was active in the community policing meetings, got trees planted and the street repaved. Ultimately, the Rose Street Artist Cooperative and Gallery ended up on Rose Street because of her lobbying efforts. She was a kind and beautiful person who gave as much as she could to help fellow souls in need. In 2005, she moved to the country of Panama with her husband, Eugene Daniel Clark. They built a fine home in beautiful El Valle, Panama. In her retirement in Panama, she enjoyed volunteering at the local town library where she worked with many of the local Panamanian children. They also enjoyed her great kindness. She leaves her husband, Eugene Daniel Clark; son, Bret Angelos of Chicago, Ill.; stepdaughter, Diana Clark; mother, Ruth Rumney of Mineville, N.Y.; and eight brothers and sisters, who had 30 children and 19 grandchildren. A memorial service for Cherry will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Society, 152 Pearl St. (top of Church Street), Burlington, on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. Food and refreshments to follow in the church parlor. Later interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Arrangements by Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Home, 97 Elmwood Ave., Burlington. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Cherry Clark's name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at http://www.cff.org/GetInvolved/ManyWaysToGive/, a charity dear to her heart.

Cherry tree, Cherry jubilee, Cherry ripe with morning light. Your soul travels on the thread of time to meet Daddy, your best friend. Together, you can make spaceships that travel to the moon and treehouses in the clouds and you can dance like dandelion fairies skimming over rivers and streams. I feel you both in the air as I walk along the country roads of Vermont each day. The butterflies land on buttercups and the painted horses gathered together and came to me the day you left. I rubbed their nosed and felt the strength and beauty, their majestic ethereal presence and knew something very important had just occurred. You and Daddy are in the singing birds I hear in the morning, in the voice of my inging cat waiting for his dinner. While my heart wrenches with grief and the greedy wish for one more moment with either of you overtakes me,some animal or insect crosses my path and reminds me that there are other dimensions in which the spirit can exist. You are both ever there. I love you. xoxoxoxoxo

Cherry was a pure, kind, gentle spirit with a soft but purposeful step toward making the world a better place. I knew her briefly at our place of work bur recognized her thoughtful spirit.

To Dan and Cherry's family: Brian (Pine) & I were so sad to read about Cherry's passing. We thought of Cherry many times since you moved away as one of our favorite neighborhood activists in the ONE. She always had a smile on her face and a friendly word for everyone. Her obituary reminds us of the beautiful woman she was as someone who cared deeply about the ONE and left many lasting footprints in our hearts. Deep condolences to you and your family.

I don't think I've ever met a person as kind, loving and giving as you Mom. I remember the first time I met Cherry when she worked at my Uncle's restaurant in Plattsburgh. She was beautiful with her long dark ponytail and bangs. She will be in my heart forever.
