Clara Aust Robbins, 97, died peacefully at Green Mountain Nursing Home on January 2, 2016 surrounded by her family.

Clara was born on January 9, 1918 in Burlington, VT to Paul and Frieda Aust. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1936. She married George Robbins in 1943. Clara retired in 1983 after 17 years as a Booking Manager at Vermont Hardware.

Clara was born, and lived her entire life on the street she loved, Lakeview Terrace in Burlington, Vermont. She became an advocate for Lakeview Terrace, always trying improve it. She was instrumental in negotiating, on behalf of the residents, to purchase additional property from Central Vermont Railroad, thereby protecting the wonderful lake view and increasing property values. Additionally, she protected the street from high power lines and commercial development, ensuring the residential feel of the street remained intact.

Clara is survived by her daughter, Jane Robbins; grandson Christian Campbell and his wife Tracey; great-grandchildren, Grayson and Jackson Campbell; nephew David Coates; nieces Gladys Coates Hart and Helen Coates Bailey; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, George Robbins, in 1979.

A funeral is scheduled for 1pm on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Lakeview Cemetery Chapel. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Clara's life.
