ELIZABETH CLOUGH Obituary

ELIZABETH ARNOLD CLOUGH, R.N. WILLISTON - Elizabeth A. "Betty" Clough, 72, passed away peacefully early Thursday, March 11, 2010, at The Arbors in Shelburne following a lengthy illness. Born on July 29, 1937, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late S. Averett Arnold, MD and Florence (Talbot) Arnold. On March 22, 1986, in the First Congregational Church in St. Albans, Betty married David L. Clough. She graduated from Bay Shore High School in 1955 and received her Nursing Degree in 1961 from Columbia Presbyterian School of Nursing. Betty was nursing floor supervisor for many years at the former Mary Fletcher Hospital and then was an in-service instructor. She and David traveled extensively throughout the country to many Civil War Sites, were members of the Vermont Snow Travelers, was an avid golfer in Vermont and Florida and loved to play the piano. Survivors include her husband, David of Shelburne; her step-sons, Daniel Clough and his wife, Christina and their children, Christiane, Melissa, and Michelle of Cantonment, Fla.; Mark Clough and his wife, Natalie, and his son, Bryce of Meridian, Idaho; her two sisters, Margaret "Peg" Heald of St. Albans and her children, Rett Heald and his wife, Emily, Bet Howrigan and her husband, Harold, and Dr. Barb Fowke and her husband, Mark; Florence Myers and her daughter, Stacie Myers of Massena, N.Y.; her great nephews, Chris Heald and his wife, Danielle, H.J. Howrigan, III, Brendan Howrigan, Adam Howrigan, Tom Fowke and Brandon Matson and his father, Tim Matson and her great nieces, Meghan Heald and Amy Howrigan. Betty is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Mark and Phyllis Clough and their son Steve Clough and his wife Debbie, of Northfield, Vt.; Peter and Marie Clough and their children Brian Clough and his wife Debbie, Diane Harliss and her husband Josh, and daughter-in-law Sukkyong Clough, of Northfield, Vt. and nieces and nephews, Nancy LaConti and her husband Arthur; Jennifer Dutil and her husband Ronald; Judy West; Jim West. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her niece, Karen Matson on May 8, 1983, her sister-inlaw, Nancy Jane Plastridge in 1994, and her brothers-inlaw, Howard "Bud" Heald on Dec. 3, 2006, and Ben Myers on Oct. 5, 2009, and nephew, Scott Clough. Betty's family would like to thank the staff of The Arbors for the wonderful care received during her stay. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Noon in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. The Reverend Judy Steger Kennedy, Pastor of the First Congregational Church will officiate. Interment will take place later this spring at the convenience of her family. Betty's family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
