Gerald Dupont Obituary

Gerald R. Dupont

Age: 77 • Burlington

Gerald R. Dupont, 77 of Burlington passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 22, 2015 at the University of Vermont Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Burlington on February 22. 1938 the son of the late Emile and Ruth (Gonyo) Dupont. On February 22, 1966 he married Vaughn Cheltra who predeceased him on December 30, 2003. On August 6, 2004 he married Janet Lopes.

He was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Class of 1957 and a member of St. Mark's Parish. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Who will manage the team from the recliner now? He enjoyed going to the casinos; always saying with the money he lost they could have built a new wing of the casino in his honor. He enjoyed going to all the activities of his grandchildren. He would sit through all kinds of weather to cheer them on. He had so many friends and relative those who knew him knew he would be the first one to call or come when they were in need. When someone was sick or hurting he would send out cards every week just to let them know he was thinking of them. Speaking of cards he was the master at picking out cards to express how he was feeling about the person receiving the card.

He is survived by his wife Janet of Burlington; his children Gary Dupont and his partner Lee Montgomery of Pompano Beach, FL and Lori A. Newsome and husband, Carl of Burlington and Janet's sons Randy Lopes and his wife Kari of Burlington and James Lopes and his wife Lisa of Colchester; grandchildren Carlos Newsome and his fiancée Becky Sheeran, Megan and Hayleigh Newsome, Meghan, Dennis, Mackenzee and Haydn, Andrew, Emily and Sam Lopes; his sister Theresa Arnold of Gantt, Alabama; sisters in law Carol Lemieux of Burlington, Marlene Zajan of Deland, FL and Sandra Gazo and several nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by his brother Donald, his sister in law Sharon "Snoopy" Cheltra, brother in laws Richard Lemieux and William Zajan.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, January 26, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Ready Funeral & Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd. Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mark's Church at 11:00am on Wednesday, January 27, with burial to follow in New Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 60 Kimball Avenue, S. Burlington, VT 05403. To send online condolences to the family please visit www.readyfuneral.com.

Janet, you must know that we are not in Burlington, otherwise I would be there with my arms around you. My friend, I am in shock. Know that I love you and my heart is there with you. To the rest of the family, Gerry was like part of the Riley family. He was close friend of my brother, Bill, and therefore with me as well. We love him dearly. Know that he is in our prayers as are all of you. I know he was in heaven a half-hour before the devil knew he was dead.
