Jean F. Grabowski

Age: 71 • Colchester

COLCHESTER - Jean Frances Grabowski, 71, of Colchester, died at home from brain cancer on Dec. 2, 2017.

She was born in Rutland, VT on September 10, 1946, the daughter of Stanley and Mary (Fleming) Pietryka. Jean graduated from West Rutland High School and Mount St. Mary's Nursing School in Montreal. She married Ken Grabowski on July 26, 1969. She spent most of her nursing career at the UVM Medical Center as a floor nurse followed by many years as an IV nurse. Upon her retirement she joined her neighborhood Mah Jongg group and spent many a Thursday afternoon among her friends laughing and excelling at the game. She lent her fine alto voice to the Holy

Cross Church Choir for several years. Jean was an avid reader and was always willing to discuss and share her latest find. She treasured time with her grandchildren - spending countless hours on the sidelines of baseball, soccer, basketball and football games. She was their biggest fan.

Jean is survived by her son Kevin and wife Zoe of Matthews, NC and daughter Kelly of Colchester; three grandchildren, Emily, Leon and Ryan; sisters Mary Miller (Sam), Waterbury, Pat Buteau (Bernie), Rutland, and Maureen Dakin, Colchester; brothers Stanley (Christine), Bomoseen, Dick (Tina), Ira, Joe (Betty), West Rutland, Steve (Colleen), Ira, brother-in-law David Coates, Colchester, Uncle Napoleon (Agnes),

Randolph, cousins, nieces, nephews, and her late husband's family. She was predeceased by her husband Ken Grabowski, parents Mary and Stanley Pietryka, sister Margaret Coates, niece Susan Coates and brother-in-law Bob Dakin.A sincere and heartful thanks to Dr. Argirios Moustakas, Annalies Byington, R.N., Gale Smith, R.N., VNA, for their compassion and extra special care during this time.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church Church Rd. in Colchester on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Those who wish may make contributions in Jean's memory to the Mary and Stanley Pietryka Memorial Scholarship, West Rutland School District, 35 Marble St., West Rutland, VT 05777-9387.

I was a neighbor of Jean's growing up in Bonanza Park. Kelly babysat me a few times. Jean was always a quiet and nice person. My thoughts are with Kelly and the rest of Jean's family.

I remember Jean well. We called her 'Jeannie'. She stood out as a wonderful classmate & team-mate on the wards of St.Mary's Hospital in Montreal. I'll always remember her happy smile. So sorry to hear of her passing away.

Dear Kevin & Kelly,

Allow me to express my sincere condolences to you for the death of your Mom. It was a pleasure for me to have Jean at Holy Cross. I really had a high respect for her, her ministry being in the choir, her deep faith in the Eucharist and her love for people. Count me as one to pray for you in this difficult times of losing your Mom.
